First off, yes I must bring this up, at first a lot of people laughed at me so super hard about my idea of building a massive street legal theme show truck.
I guess they didn't believe that my show truck idea and my dream would become a reality..... yea i spent tens of thousands of dollars,
and so many hard hours of work on the "Guardian" (four months of 14 hour days and then some) just to get it going and i still work on her all the time.
So far a total of almost $110k and this truck is massive! One of the biggest, baddest show trucks on the road in the state of CA.
That's right, "on the road!"
Onstar, leather, XM, touch-screen DVD with navigation. Bose, 3 12" subs from JBL powerd by one big Interfire amp, plus she has every factory option possible!!
She has a total of a 21" lift, all welded to the frame, no bolt on stuff here.Triple "J" welding and steel from Hollister CA., Paul in Scotts Valley CA.
with a frame height of 34". 513 gears ,custom built drive shafts, San Jose drive line, San Jose CA.,the tires are from Super Swamper - 41"x20"x14"
that dont seem to big but I have to obey the law as much as possible!! I wanted the over the tire look, just to say, I am 5'6" and when i stand
under the side mirrors they are waaaay above my head!! I made the headlights into the bumper, as the height with the factory head lights was tooo high.
Weld 20"x12" "The Dune" wheels, - 1-1/2 wheel spacers to widen out the track, makes the biggest difference in the world as far as handling and saftey goes!!
A big shoutout to the guys and girls over at 4 Wheel Parts, and Trans America,(to many names to list) - you guys and girls know who you are!!
Thank you all so very much for all the support and all of the parts that i have recieved from you for the show truck and also for inviting me to
display her at the 4 Wheel Parts show at the San Mateo Expo Center. I drove through the Santa Cruz mountains (with a four hour notice)
in the snow and rain to get to that show and your team let me in to clean and polish the show truck to get her ready for the show.
And yes, she was a hit at the show!! This was the first show where I displayed the "Guardian"!!
It made a tear run down my cheek as so many people shook my hand and even hugged me. They could not believe that someone could do somthing like i did,
build a show truck around sobriety!! (That was my birthday that weekend!!)
Tracy Chevrolet,Ocean Chevrolet, Kathy Fowler Chevrolet, California Highway Patrol, Marla Moore at Hypertech--you rock!!
Fox Shocks, a total of eight, but six more to come!! Makita, Stylin Concepts, Amp Research steps, K&N, FlowMaster, NGK, Castrol, Sylvania,
OnStar, Kragen Auto, Scarbrough Lumber,Travlin Toys, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Directed Electronics, Varnet, Husqavarna, Santa Cruz Sound Garden,
Lenox, XM Radio, Duplicolor, Invisible Glass, Dell, DeWalt, Triflow, Stull, JBL, Eclipse, Thor, Dupont, Mothers polish and products, Snap On,
Driven waxes and products, STA Lube, Matco tools, John Deere, Walmart, Duraflame, Verizon wireless, ShopVac, 3M products, Motorola,
Internet Design Concepts, Home Depot, Stanley, Armorall, STP products, custom strobes from Oviedo Safety Lights (they are so sick), billet grill,
custom bowtie, she was just painted by Hidden Valley Auto & Body in Middletown CA., a big shout out to randy and the crew over there,
you guys are the best for reals, when i brought her to you guys she was a mess, I was so super lost and you and your crew fixed her in a way that
I will never forget!!
And to Paul and the crew at a Sign ASAP in Scotts Valley CA., you guys, God bless you Paul, Jody, Jason, David, you have taken me in when i was so super
down after some bad stuff had happend!!
The complete lift kit is powdercoated from Tiger Drylac, that is a shift changer (changes colors when you walk around the truck)
the frame is painted the same, the graphics change colors as well. The engine and transmission is stock, and yes the truck is a 1/2 ton but
rides way super sick better then a 3/4ton or a 1 ton. I can drive 12 hours or so, and wont even feel the stress and body pain that you normaly
would feel from a 3/4 or a 1 ton (i own a 2500 hd, so I know)...yes,(ifs) independent front suspension rides better then when she was stock with the
first lift, fabtech 6" lift, and goes any place i need her to go. Thats pushin it- saying it like that, but she does go in some very very nasty
spots and she goes to very cool places that no one ever takes a show truck.
I have taken this massive show truck to so many places and no, she does not ever go on a trailer.
If its through the deepest water, the tallest sand dunes, the biggest rocks, the biggest hills, through the deepest mud,
the sickest trails or some deep snow, she handles it!!
I got her stuck in the sand once when Whiplash forgot to hook up the wiring harness for the four wheel drive system.
Yes, i was super mad but I leaped into action and handled the sitch!! I had to cut my speaker wires to make a harness so the 4x4 would work,
no probs after that, thats when I learned that this truck was the real deal!
I've been to Pismo Beach 3 times, and, in or on the dunes she goes any where I point her, even with the trailer hooked up and loaded with quads and bikes.
Up the dunes? - no problem!! I have been to Coos Bay Oregon dunes (the cops there loved my show truck!!), Yosemete Nationl Park,
Elk Mountain Recreational Park CA., Hollister Hills Recreational Park CA a dozen times, and yes, to the 4x4 spot in the park.
Lake Tahoe CA. in the snow. I drove around the complete lake of Clear Lake CA., Hidden Valley River about two hundred times.
The CHP has stopped me a lot, and they are blown away by this massive truck and its statement on the side.
They just asked me to put mud flaps on her (I did, they are from a freightliner and are on quick release with removeable keys to take off when needed).
They love this truck as does the local police. And yes, the reason I built this truck was for me and the general public, and most of all the kids.
A big shout out to my self for believing in myself and my dream, and for being as strong as I have been throughout this build
(I have had some bad times and some very good times during this project).
This has been the hardest thing I have ever put together, but also the best thing.
And last but not least, a special thanks to Gary Graham at Extreme Motorsports in Brentwood CA. I try to find a way to say thank you but
I get lost because I am so far away from you. The phone calls just dont do enough. One of these days you will see my show truck and it is
gonna put a smile on your face. I PROMISE you that! YOU ARE PART OF THE REASON I OWN A SHOW TRUCK!! The best way to thank you I guess is to take you
for a drive, or even better yet, let you drive what you gave me the inspiration to build, my show truck!!
There has been so many people that have had so much doubt about this project, it aint even funny.
Now that it is almost complete, I find my self suffering, as it is so expensive to keep up, but no worries,
it is way better to spend my cash on her then the other stuff.
I just thank God for the guys and girls who have stuck by me with this project, and God himself!!
Straight up, without the help and support from all of you I would not be able to keep this project going!! Thank you, all of you!
Your friend,
Johnny Ledford -Project Clean And Sober!!
